Position Title: HEAD OF BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT AND COMMUNICATION

Contract: 3 years (contract renewed based on performance and availability of funds)

Location: Freetown, flexible work hours, with travel to the field as required

Reports to: Executive Director

Direct report: Grant Management Officer, Communication Officers

 

Job Purpose

The Head of Business Development and Communication will drive the resource mobilization and business development agenda. S/he will be key in identifying opportunities, engaging with internal staff, reviewing/developing, and implementing resource mobilization and communication strategies, through consultations with relevant program managers and other stakeholders, developing and submitting program and resource development proposals. 

 

Person Specifications:

 

Qualification:

·       Degree in Development Studies, Social Sciences, Business Administration, Marketing, Project Management, or its equivalent in a related field. 

·       A master’s degree in a related field is an added advantage. 

 

Competencies:

§  Have at least three (3) years working experience in business development and/or partnership management preferably in the NGO sector or a large organization of which at least three (3) years must have been at a Middle or Senior management position.

  • Proven record of mobilizing resources.
  • Have demonstrated in-depth understanding of programming issues and Policy work at organizational, national and international levels.
  • Experience & proven success record in developing high quality donor proposals for high value and institutional donors.
  • Experience of setting up and managing high value and institutional donor contracts, with   knowledge of donor contractual requirements, experience working with NGOs, INGOs and Consortiums
  • Good knowledge of trends of fundraising development in Sierra Leone is desired for this post.
  • Proven track record of developing successful partnerships and collaborations.
  • Strong negotiation and contract management skills.
  • Demonstrated good project management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

• Excellent understanding of ActionAid’s vision, mission, goals, and approach to poverty eradication and development

• Excellent resource mobilization skills

• Strong communications research and analytical skills, and ability to rapidly analyse and integrate diverse information from varied sources

• Effective report writing and presentation skills

• Networking, influencing, and negotiating skills

• Excellent planning and organizational skills

• Experience in evidence-based Governance issues in Sierra Leone is essential

• Knowledge of development policies and priorities of national governments and wider global development context.
