Regional Accountant (North)

Freetown, Sierra Leone

 Main/Specific Responsibilities:

 

·        Ensuring effective implementation of AASL’s finance and accounting policies and procedures.

·        Maintenance of all bank correspondences and communication.   .

·        Ensuring financial compliance with the donor contracts for assigned projects.

·        Reviewing partners financial reports and documentation.

·        Regular assessment and strengthening of partners’ and CBO’s financial management capacities to ensure compliance with grants requirements and enhanced reporting

·        Ensure that regular, accurate and timely financial and management reports are prepared and issued to the Head of Finance, donors, and AA International as specified in the ActionAid International Financial Policies and Management Framework.

·        Prepare and submit financial reports as per organizational and statutory requirement/required by local legislation.

·        Ensure that effective systems are in place to allow adequate financial monitoring.

·        Preparing, processing and consolidating necessary budget information in line with the planning guidelines and procedures agreed with AAI and in accordance with specific needs of AASL, and submit to the Global Secretariat (GS) for review and endorsement/approval.

·        Support fundraising efforts by working with committee to develop budgets for funding proposal and providing any required financial documents to support proposal submissions including copies of external audit reports etc.

·        Prepare detailed forecasts and expenditure budgets and summary budget tables and ensure that they are consistent with ActionAid international requirements.

 

Specifications:

·        A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field BSc. (Accounting option/B.Comm.) +3 years’ experience

·        2nd Degree (with a relevant professional qualification)

·        Must have good knowledge of the use of accounting software (knowledge of SUN Accounting and Vision Executive will be an added advantage).

·        Must have strong knowledge of internal controls and budget/cash flow monitoring.

·        Must have a good knowledge of international accounting standards.

·        Knowledge in budget management and financial reporting analysis

·        Skills in capacity building and Risk management

·        Experience in financial management of development projects especially for projects funded by development partners UN Agency, EU and other relevant Development Agencies.

·        Ability to work under pressure.

  • Capable of working to strict deadlines.
  • Experience in building donor relationships and fundraising initiative
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience working with and supporting partner organisations(CSO, CBOs, NNGO, etc)
